Fall is one of our favorite seasons here at Kinder-Garden Learning Center! Recently, our preschoolers had the chance to explore apples in every way imaginable—using all five senses. They smelled the apples, compared their colors and textures, felt which ones were heavier, listened to the “crunch” as they bit in, and of course, enjoyed tasting red, green, and yellow varieties. Hands-on experiences like this encourage curiosity, build vocabulary, and strengthen early science and math skills—all while making learning fun and memorable.
But the apple fun doesn’t stop in the classroom—there are plenty of ways families can enjoy apples together this fall, right here in Meriden and at home:
🌳 Local Apple Fun in Meriden & Nearby
Lyman Orchards (Middlefield, CT): Just a short drive away, families can go apple picking, enjoy the corn maze, and grab a fresh-baked apple pie.
Nature Walks at Castle Craig & Red Bridge: Pack up some apples and enjoy a family hike! Castle Craig offers breathtaking fall views, while the Red Bridge trails provide a peaceful spot to take in autumn colors.
Meriden Farmers Market (on Saturdays): Pick up local apples, cider, and fall goodies while supporting local growers.
🍂 Southington Apple Harvest Festival (October 3-5 & 10-12): A beloved Connecticut tradition! Head to the Southington Town Green for live music, carnival rides, local vendors, crafts, and plenty of apple treats (don’t miss the fritters!). More details here: Southington Apple Harvest Festival
🏡 Apple Fun at Home
Try a mini apple taste test as a family—see which color everyone likes best!
Bake a simple apple crisp together—children can help stir oats and cinnamon.
Make an apple stamp craft by cutting apples in half and dipping them in paint.
Read together! Family favorites include Ten Apples Up on Top! by Dr. Seuss, The Apple Pie Tree by Zoe Hall, and Apple Farmer Annie by Monica Wellington.
🍎✨ At KGLC, we love bringing learning to life with hands-on activities, and we encourage families to extend that learning at home and in the community. What’s your family’s favorite way to enjoy apples in the fall?
