2009 PARENT QUESTIONNAIRES

 ARE COMPLETE.

 OUR THANKS TO THE FAMILIES

 THAT RETURNED THEIR FORMS !

Here are a few things our parents have to say about our program:

"KGLC is the most well-organized school.  The teachers are very understanding to my child's needs and they are very patient with my child.  I could not ask for a better set of teachers to be teaching and taking care of my child.  I love KGLC's academic program and how we feel like a family.  Thanks for everything - Keep up the good work!"

REPLY:   Thank you.  The teachers do their best to make everyone feel like part of OUR FAMILY.  Our staff is constantly working to improve the curriculum and meet the changing needs of our families.  We're glad you appreciate all the hard work our teachers do at KGLC.

"Fifth year at KGLC and fifth year with this request.  Please allow each family to take vacation (1 wk) (at their convenience) without paying for the week.  It is difficult to plan around the KGLC's vacation.  Thank you again for your consideration regarding this request."

REPLY:   As always, thank you for your suggestion and thank you for your understanding.

"I couldn't ask for a better environment, learning experience and staff/teacher for my child.  Thank you KGLC."

REPLY:  Thank you very much for the kind words and the honest assessment of our program.  We try very hard to provide exceptional care and learning experiences to every child in our center.  It is nice when a parent "gets it" and knows that we run our program in the best interest of the children.  Thank you for being a part of OUR FAMILY.

"-Special Events be set later: instead of 4pm to 4:30/5pm.  -Reminders, day before about no lunch/special events.  -More/Informative teacher conversations at the end of the day, especially if deviating from the calendar activities."

REPLY:  Thank you for your suggestions.  Our special events start at different times throughout the year.  We try to take into consideration the number of participants and the time that will be needed for the event.  We understand that some parents are planners and need to be prepared for every situation - those parents do not work with children :).  KGLC is a NAEYC-accredited program and we are constantly deviating from the activity calendar.  Every calendar has the statement: "Depending on the level of involvement, events & projects on the calendar are subject to change at any time."  The reason for this is because we allow for student-lead activities every day.  If you have a group of children that is more interested in following a butterfly than coloring, cutting & pasting a picture - we will be following a butterfly that day.  This curriculum allows us to offer many learning experiences, sometimes on short notice.  An impromptu luncheon or special activity is almost always a student-lead activity.  You should never feel obliged to participate in any activity.  KGLC attempts to provide students and their families with numerous learning experiences each month, but they are not mandatory.  If your family does not wish to participate, there is no penalty - simply let us know that your child will not be participating.  Lastly, our teachers try to speak with every parent before they leave each morning and afternoon.  Remember that our school closes at 5:30pm each day.  If you are picking up your child at that time, it is extremely difficult to have a lengthy conversation while we are closing the building and trying to get to our families.  Parents can also leave a note for the teacher in their child's folder or call us between 1pm & 3pm any afternoon to speak with your child's teacher.  We consider every family part of OUR FAMILY and we hope you will soon come to the realization that we want the best for OUR CHILDREN.

"Likes: * Playground * Great Curriculum * Holiday Functions * Clean & Organized * Allowed Parent Involvement * Friendly Teachers * Water-Snow Play Great  Dislikes: * Ability to have meetings w/ parents and have teachers/directors undivided attention vs. meeting when they have to watch children * Adjust Late Fee Policy * Less Snow Closings * Would have liked to receive Birth-2-3 & EIP from KGLC vs. on own *Overall - Very Good Facility - Appreciate all that is done"

REPLY: We're glad you appreciate all that is done.  There aren't enough hours in the day for our teachers to accomplish everything some parents want and some students require at KGLC.  Constant "one-to-one" care is not something we are able to provide any family.  We pride ourselves on our "Open Door" policy.  We invite and welcome visits from OUR FAMILY but we must reinforce that this is not a social invitation.  Please don't feel insulted or unwelcome if our teachers are not able to conduct lengthy conversations with you when you visit.  The responsibility to provide exceptional care to the children in their charge is not something they take lightly.  Our teachers focus must remain on the students in their care.  When a parent/teacher meeting is requested, granted & scheduled, the parents do have a teacher(s)' and/or director's undivided attentions.  KGLC did close for three snow days this year and closed early on one other day.  In reviewing those decisions, we believe we were correct in closing each time.  These decisions are in the interest of the safety for students, staff and parents alike.  KGLC may not always agree with a family that Birth-2-3 or an Early Intervention Program is necessary, but parents have the ultimate responsibility and decision to make such requests.  I'm sure that no family, including yours, would say that this school was not supportive to a family making this request.  (Even if our staff believed it was unnecessary.)  Lastly - we hate late fees too, but the only way to counter late pickups is to penalize the offenders.  Our teachers are forced to scramble for coverage or re-arrange their schedules every time a student stays after their contracted pickup time.
