The month of August, although very busy, was full of fun and excitement for us all. The children learned about many different kinds of fish and sea creatures. We also enjoyed making jell-o watermelon slices and making our weather charts.

THEME: This month we will focus on many different things. We will talk about “going back to school”, the “fall season”, “Grandparents’ Day” and “zoo animals”. We will also recognize our fire fighters and police officers for 9/11.

LANGUAGE: At circle time, we will be practicing our ABC flashcards that include pictures for each letter. We will also talking about different kinds of apples and how the leaves are changing this month.

MATH & SCIENCE: We will continue counting to 20. As the fall weather approaches, we will be watching the leaves as Mother Nature changes their colors and go on a nature walk.

HEALTH & SAFETY: We will be practicing fire drills on a weekly basis. We will also practice washing our hands to keep germs away.

COOKING: The children really enjoy this hands-on activity. This month we will make several recipes revolving around apples like “lion-face” apples.

COLORS: Fall color will be the focus of this month. “Brown”, “red”, “orange” and “yellow” will be included in our art projects.

MUSIC: We will be having music classes for the children on Sept 9th & 28th to continue our music lessons. We will also sing our favorite “back to school” songs and perform our famous finger plays each day. The children will start to learn: “What is music?”

BOOKMOBILE: Mrs. Burgess will be visiting us on Sept 21st. We will also continue reading our favorite stories at story time each day.

SPANISH CLASS: The teachers will continue their short classes with the children each week this month and teach the “days of the week” and “colors”.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: We will continue to play outside as much as the weather permits. We will also continue using the tunnel and parachute indoors. We will also do a lot of dancing and jumping in place.

CREATIVE ART: This month we will allow the children to use their imaginations to create art with 3D collages using items collected from our nature walk.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Ms. Sherry and Ms. Donna who are celebrating birthdays this month.

PARENT PARTICIPATION:

Please label everything brought into the center before it arrives. Please be sure to check the calendar for specific information, special events, and birthdays.

Please make sure you are holding your child’s hand when walking them to your car. Don’t let them run in the parking lot. It is very dangerous at pick-up time.

We ask that you continue to read to your child(ren) and work with your child(ren) at home on his/her colors, shapes and ABC’s. This short amount of time will give you’re a child(ren) a great advantage in the future.

REMINDERS: Parent / Teacher Night (No Children) will be on September 15th @ 6:00pm. Please try to make it.
