August was a very busy and exciting month. The children enjoyed learning about sea life and the ocean. We enjoyed a visit from the Maritime Center and had the chance to learn about and touch many sea creatures. Our Hawaiian week was a big success and the luau was great fun for all who attended. The graduation ceremony was amazing and the children did such a great job. We’ll surely miss those families that are leaving KGLC. It just keeps getting better.

THEME: We will be learning about the animals in the zoo. We will talk about Patriot Day and 9/11. We will discuss firefighters and police officers as well. There will also be an apple unit and units on autumn, self-awareness and Grandparents’ Day.

LANGUAGE: We will be making books that will include “All About Me” and “An Apple Is As Red As …”. The children also will learn to master their names and letter recognition. The letter “Aa” will be emphasized this month along with words such as “apples” and “animals”. We will also discuss red-colored words.

MATH & SCIENCE: This month we will work on recognizing objects in pictures and line drawings. The children will learn to identify objects that are the same and find others that are different. We will match pairs, match sets, sort items and categorize items. All this and we will be learning about zoo animals as well.

HEALTH & SAFETY: We will continue to reinforce playground safety as well as proper manners. We will work on caring for items that are not yours. We will also talk about the spread of germs and the importance of bathing and washing our hands.

COOKING: The children will be making many delicious goodies surrounding apples as the main ingredient.

COLORS: The children will be working with the colors of the fall, such as: green, red, orange, brown and yellow.

MUSIC: We will hold our music classes for the children on Sept. 9th & 23rd to continue our music lessons. We will also sing our favorite “back to school” songs and perform our famous finger plays each day.

BOOKMOBILE: Mrs. Burgess will be visiting us this month on September 21st. We will also continue reading our favorite stories at story time.

SPANISH CLASSES: This month we will learn good manners with words such as: “por favor” (please), “gracias” (thank you), “permiso” (excuse me) and “buenos dias” (good day).

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: The children will learn to listen to instructions related to identifying body parts being used during a task. They will also be asked to stop an activity upon command (FREEZE) – Mr. Bump is who visits us when we don’t look for empty space.

CREATIVE ART: Teachers and students will be working with leaves and wax. They will also be making collages with nature items.

A BIG WELCOME to Alyssa A, Annaleese V, Isabella C, Sophia L, and Jayleen P as they begin with the KGLC Nursery School / Kindergarten groups. We hope their days will be filled with fun and learning.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Dionna who turns 4 yrs old on Sept 4^th. Ms. Sherry and Ms. Donna are also celebrating birthdays this month.

REMINDER: Please make sure that you sign your child in and out each day and stay within the base hours you selected to avoid additional charges. Please label everything for your child BEFORE it enters the center.

Our Grandparent’s Day celebration is September 10th @ 4:00pm. We will be inviting all grandparents to visit us on that afternoon to help the children with a special project.
