Kinder-Garden Learning Center
PRESCHOOL / TERRIFIC TWOS
March 2010
The
month of February was a short but sweet month for us all. It was nice for the children who enjoyed a
visit from the dental hygienist. The children loved making different projects in
all of our centers and the best fun of all was our Valentine’s Day celebration.
THEME: We will be
learning about St. Patrick’s Day, Dr. Seuss’ birthday, welcoming spring and
celebrating Incredible Kid Day. We will
spring into reading with “March on Reading”.
We will also spend some time on the topic of welcoming spring.
LANGUAGE: The children
will discuss how spring “comes in like a lion and out like a lamb”. New words will include: “rainbow”, “spring”,
“shamrock”, “leprechaun” and “incredible”.
The letter “Hh” will be emphasized and we will work on words that begin
with that letter and incorporate them into our monthly activities.
MATH & SCIENCE: This
month we will talk about how March comes in like a lion and goes out like a
lamb. We will also talk to the children
about how plants grow and learning numbers in our family. We will also be conducting a fun “potato
experiment”.
HEALTH & SAFETY: As the weather is warming up,
we will return to more outside activities.
We will continue to stress the importance of appropriate dress for the
weather as well as talking about the importance of covering our mouths when we
cough or sneeze and washing our hands afterward.
COOKING: The children
will be making rainbow pasta and edible bugs.
We will also have a special luncheon for Incredible Kid Day on March 19th.
COLORS: We will be
emphasizing the colors of the rainbow: ROY G BIV (red, orange, yellow, green,
blue, indigo and violet). Green Day will
be March 17th so wear green to school.
MUSIC:. We
will have our special music classes for the children on March 10th and March 24th. We will sing super spring songs and learn
rhythm and tempo. Our children love to sing!
BOOKMOBILE: The children
will continue to enjoy new books and story time with Mrs. Burgess this month on
March 16th. If you are looking for a
particular book or story to read at home, let us know and we’ll ask for her to
bring it for the next visit. We also ask
that you send in a Dr. Seuss book for your child to share with the class this
month.
SPANISH: We will be
teaching the children the Spanish words for: “green”, “lion” and “lamb” as well
as other spring words in Spanish.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION: We
will continue instructing our indoor gym classes on Fridays. We will be playing low-organized games using
the parachute and other indoor gym equipment.
CREATIVE ART: We will be decorating spring alphabets and allow
the children to be creative through art projects. These projects will be displayed on our
bulletin boards, so keep your eyes open.
PARENT PARTICIPATION:
Please label everything
brought into the center before it arrives.
Please
be sure to check the calendar for additional information, special events, and
birthdays.
For Incredible Kid Day on March 19th, we are asking all parents to
write a letter to your child describing how incredible they are to you. Please make sure your letters and luncheon
orders are here before March 18th so we can read your letter aloud to the class
on that day. Send it in a sealed
envelope with your child’s name on it.
Make sure that your “March on Reading” contracts are returned before
March begins. Completed reading
calendars are due by April 5th.
Please have at least two (2)
complete sets of clothing at the center everyday. If you feel your child is more prone to
accidents, please send in 3-4 changes of clothes.
