Kinder-Garden Learning Center

NURSERY SCHOOL / KINDERGARTEN

March 2010

The month of February was a short but sweet month for us all.  It was nice for the children who enjoyed a visit from the dental hygienist as well as our Valentine’s Day celebration with all those goodies and a special lunch.  Thank you to all those who helped make the luncheon a success.  The children were also able to design and display their teeth, learn about the presidents, Mt. Rushmore and celebrated the Chinese New Year, the Olympics and Mardi Gras.  A big THANK YOU to Deb Brauch & Amy Gapski for their help last month.

THEME: We will be learning about the postal service, St. Patrick’s Day and Dr. Seuss’ birthday, welcoming spring and celebrating Incredible Kid Day.  We will also “spring into reading” with our “March on Reading” program.

LANGUAGE: The children will discuss how spring “comes in like a lion and out like a lamb”.  Vocabulary words will include: “leprechaun”, “rainbow”, “gold”, “Dr. Seuss”, “Irish”, “shamrock” and “incredible”.  The vowels, as well as lower case letters will be emphasized.

MATH & SCIENCE: This month we will continue our work with counting to 50 by using different objects.  We will also take time to discuss and study the power of the wind.  Our estimation jar will also be sent home this month.

HEALTH & SAFETY:  As the weather is warming up, we will return to more outside activities.  We will continue to stress the importance of appropriate dress for the weather as well as talking about the importance of covering our mouths when we cough or sneeze and washing our hands afterward.

COOKING: The children will have “Green Eggs & Ham” on March 2nd.  We will be making Irish soda bread, shamrock cookies and rainbow yogurt while learning what happens when you mix two colors together.  We will also have a special luncheon for Incredible Kid Day on March 19th.

COLORS: We will be emphasizing the colors of the rainbow: ROY G BIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet)

MUSIC: We will be having our special music classes on March 10th and March 24th.  We will sing songs such as “The Rainbow Song”, “Chase a Leprechaun”, “The Ants Go Marching” and many more.

BOOKMOBILE: The children will continue to enjoy new books and story time with Mrs. Burgess this month on March 16th.  If you are looking for a particular book or story to read at home, let us know and we’ll ask for her to bring it for the next visit.  We also ask that you send in a Dr. Seuss book for your child to share with the class this month.

SPANISH: We will be teaching the children the Spanish words for: “green”, “lion” and “lamb” through songs as well as sing our bilingual songs each day.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: We will continue instructing our indoor gym classes on Fridays.  We will be playing low-organized games using the parachute and other indoor gym equipment.

CREATIVE ART: We will continue doing many different art projects every other Monday.  The children will create an art project with colors they create by mixing two or more together.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Sean who turns 5 on March 19th  and Ashley who turns 3 on March 28th.

PARENT PARTICIPATION:

Please label everything brought into the center before it arrives.

Please be sure to check the calendar for additional information, special events, and birthdays.

For Incredible Kid Day, we are asking all parents to write a letter to your child describing how incredible they are to you.  Please make sure your letters are here before March 18th so we can read your letter aloud to the class the next day.  Send it in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on it.

Make sure that your “March on Reading” contracts are returned before March begins. Completed calendars are due by April 5th.

We will be having a party in celebration of Incredible Kid Day on March 19th.  This is a great chance to let your child know how much you love him/her.  We will also have a special McDonald’s luncheon for the children.

Please have at least two (2) complete sets of clothing at the center every day.  If you feel your child is more prone to accidents, please send in 3-4 changes of clothes.
