Kinder-Garden Learning Center

INFANT / TODDLERS

March 2010

The month of February was a short but sweet month for us all and the children enjoyed making different projects and learning new concepts.  Our Valentine’s Day celebration was also a lot of fun.

THEME: We will be learning about the spring season as well as celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, Dr. Seuss’ birthday, spring and Incredible Kid Day.

LANGUAGE: We will discuss how spring “comes in like a lion and out like a lamb”.  New words will include: “March”, “spring”, “shamrock”, “lion” and “lamb”.

MATH & SCIENCE:  We will continue to count from 0 – 10 and reinforce how to match shapes and colors.  Last month, we began emphasizing these concepts in both English and Spanish and we will continue to do so on a daily basis.

HEALTH & SAFETY:  As the weather is warming up, we will return to more outside activities.  We will continue to stress the importance of appropriate dress for the weather as well as talk about the importance of covering our mouths when we cough or sneeze and washing our hands afterward.

COOKING: The children will be decorating shamrock cookies with vanilla frosting and food coloring and learn what happens when you mix two colors together.

COLORS: We will be emphasizing the colors of the rainbow: ROY G BIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet).  Green Day will be March 17th.

MUSIC:. We will be holding our special music classes for the children on March 10th and March 24th.  We will sing songs such as “The Rainbow Song”, “The Ants Go Marching” and many more.

BOOKMOBILE: The children will continue to enjoy new books and story time with Mrs. Burgess this month on March 16th.  If you are looking for a particular book or story to read at home, let us know and we’ll ask her to bring it on her next visit.  We also ask that you send in a Dr. Seuss book for your child to share with the class this month.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: We will continue instructing our indoor gym classes on Fun Fridays.  We will be playing low-organized games using the balls, tunnel, cones and other indoor gym equipment.

CREATIVE ART:  We will spend even more time this month allowing the children to use their creative abilities through art projects.  These projects will include gluing, coloring, painting and much more.

PARENT PARTICIPATION:

Please label everything brought into the center before it arrives.

Please be sure to check the calendar for additional information, special events, and birthdays.

For Incredible Kid Day on March 19th, we are asking all parents to write a short letter to your child describing how incredible they are to you.  Please make sure your letters are here before March 18th so we can read your letter aloud to the class on that day.  Send it in a sealed envelope with your child’s name on it.

“March on Reading” contracts were due on February 26th.  Make sure to return your form before March begins.  Completed reading calendars are due by April 5th.

Please have at least two (2) complete sets of clothing at the center every day.  If you feel your child is more prone to accidents, please send in 3-4 changes of clothes.
