* *      When a holiday falls on a Tuesday, then the preceding day (Monday) will also be observed.  When a holiday falls on a Thursday, then the proceeding day (Friday) will also be observed.  When the holiday falls on a weekend, we will select either the preceding Friday or the proceeding Monday as our holiday.  Although we are entitled to close the school from December 24th until January 2nd each year, we have rarely chosen to do so.  Instead, we have usually opted to close only a few days during the holiday week(s).

+++    KINDER-GARDEN LEARNING CENTER WILL BE CLOSED FOR ONE WEEK DURING EACH SUMMER.  YOU WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO PAY TUITION, SINCE YOU MAY BE FORCED TO FIND ALTERNATIVE CARE FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK.  FAMILIES WILL BE GIVEN AT LEAST A 6 WEEK NOTICE TO ALLOW ADEQUATE TIME TO FIND AN ALTERNATIVE CHILD CARE SOURCE.

EXCLUSION FOR ILLNESS PROCEDURE

This policy has been adopted from the Center for Disease Control and is used by several public school systems, including Meriden & Wallingford.  Children become sick quickly, and infections spread easily among children.  With this in mind, please look for any symptoms as outlined below, that would require your child to remain home for a day or to be removed from the school setting.  When in doubt, we encourage you to keep your child home rather than risk infecting the entire school.  This will aid in preventing as outbreak of illness among the children and staff at KGLC.

Below are symptoms requiring your child to remain at home or be removed from the center.  A physician’s note does not allow a child’s early return for any of these conditions.

Fever

Fever is defined as having a temperature of 100°F or higher, taken in the ear or under the arm or 101°F or higher taken orally.  The child MUST be FEVER FREE without the use of medication for a minimum of 24 hours before returning to school.

Diarrhea

Runny, watery, or bloody stools.  Child must be removed from center following THIRD OCCURRENCE and must remain home for at least 24 hours following LAST OCCURRENCE.

Body Rash With Fever

Body rashes in children can be common. However, if the rash is accompanied by a fever, the child must remain home until the rash is diagnosed or resolved.

Vomiting

Child must be removed from center following FIRST OCCURRENCE and must remain home for at least 24 hours following LAST OCCURRENCE.

Eye Discharge

Thick mucous or pus draining from eyes, or “Pink Eye” must remain home for 24 hours after beginning medication.

Yellowish Skin or Eyes

A typical sign of severe infection.  (Jaundice)

Child must be seen by a physician before allowed to return to school.

Irritability

If the child is irritable, continuously crying or requires more attention than the teacher can provide without hurting the health and safety of the other children in the classroom, the child must stay at home.

Earache

Children experience extreme pain with earaches and must remain home.

Runny Nose

Children experience runny noses frequently during the winter and spring months.  However, if your child has a thick yellow or green discharge, or requires frequent or constant wiping of the discharge, the child must remain home at least 24 hours.

Head Lice

When a case of lice is identified, the student will be sent home where he/she must be treated and ALL of the nits removed.  For a student to return to the classroom, the pediatrician must verify that the student has received proper treatment for lice.

Any Communicable Disease

Should the child contract a communicable disease, the center must be notified immediately to properly warn the staff and other parents.  The child MUST remain home at least 24 hours or until the child is no longer contagious.
